Operational deployment and COVID have meant that Golf has not been at the forefront of most people’s minds. However, despite this, the Light Dragoon Golfers have still managed to squeeze in four competitions in the UK; the plans for an 18 hole course in Gao, Mali, not quite coming through.
The Brassie between the Officers and Sgts’ Mess was contested in June, with the Sgts’ Mess being triumphant once again. The Junior Brassie was again restarted having not been competed for in nearly 3 years. This was an extremely close fought match which ended up being all square at the end.
As always, we sent a contingent to attend the Regimental Association golf event at The Hodson Golf club & Silkstone Golf club. A very enjoyable event to attend which saw Maj Stott win the North East event and WO2 Hirst coming second. I’m not too sure Maj Stott knows how to add, otherwise he seriously needs to have another look at his Handicap. Bandit comes to mind and wouldn’t look out of place wearing a sombrero.
With next years FOE already being filled, we are still looking at getting a team away

With the north east Army Golfing Association recommencing activities as well as the RAC Championship, there will be plenty of opportunities for the team to bring home some silverware next year.

The football season again has unfortu- nately been affected by COVID-19 at times. The general pace of regiment life, with operations and exercises has meant that there is now less white space than an old CVRT gearbox compartment.
However, there have been some changes at the top, seeing Ssgt Garsud (Jim the Rim) and Capt Turner (Ozil Eyes) take control of the administration off the pitch, and new management under Sgt Jeffries (DILF) and coach LCpl Fensome (Barry Slow Mover). We now have a young new team with exciting times ahead. A few of the old guard remain in the form of Sgt’s Cheshire, Mallen and Cpl’s McDonnell and Rae, who all take up responsibilities of captaincy when available.
A massive shout out and thank you from all the team to Capt’s Cuthbertson, Buchan and W02 Cox and Robertson as we wish them all the very best as they move onto new roles. They have each left an important mark on the regimental football scene.
We are seeing some great new faces com- ing to training and are steadily improv-

ing as a team. LDFC now has a big repre- sentation down at the RAC football with Cpl’s Hewson and Rae and Tprs Dunn and Swindlehurst all playing for the RAC this season, beating stiff competi- tion from other regiments.
The team kicked off the season with a very strong start, beating 5 Regiment Royal Artillery 7-1 in our first competi- tive game in over a year. LCpl Battle gave a particularly good performance, coming off the bench to bag a hat trick before the final whistle. We moved into the sec- ond round of our league, where the story was very different, playing an extremely strong 6 Regiment RLC team who deservingly won 8-3 in a hard battling game. To be fair, I’d like to think that the score didn’t really reflect the hard efforts

on the pitch. We improved in our first league game against 2 Mercians which saw the Light Dragoons lose 3-2 despite playing with 10 men for over 45 minutes.
The football club is improving all the time and we look forward to finishing the season on a high, still fighting in the league and league cup. Over the next sea- son we will work hard to get the Cavalry Cup back where it belongs...in Capt Dinger Bell’s extremely large hands.
