Catering Department
In an action-packed year, the chefs have been at the coal face of all major activity; it felt fairly relentless. In April 2022 we saw the Catering Warrant Officer (RCWO), along with two mem- bers of his department, deployed across Germany and Poland on Ex DEFENDER to feed in excess of 1200 soldiers over a period of 8 weeks, overcoming various obstacles and many challenges in their paths to culinary excellence! This speed bumps did not dampen the catering department’s spirit: from showcasing their creative talent and culinary skills the Troop has proved that it lives up to the Corps motto ‘We Sustain’ in adverse situations and under any circumstances.
In September WO2 St Jean (RCWO) deployed on Op CABRIT 11 with an extensive cohort of catering gurus, augmented from chefs across 12 ABCT, to provide catering support to the KRH/eFP BG by feeding more than 1200 British and NATO soldiers in Tapa, Estonia. This was a sizable task with the HOTO of the catering facilities and the revamping of menus in preparation for the many hungry feeders. This saw the team wading through layers of red tape/organisational paperwork to make slight changes to feeding arrangements with the host nations so that we could help deliver a more suitable and nourishable choice of meals for our soldiers. As always, with change comes trial and adversity, but we proved that anything is possible and achievable with the right approach and right attitude; the highlight was the visit of GOC with a meal befitting the occasion.
In October/November we welcomed back freshly battered ‘Fish Friday’ and it went down a treat with our soldiers. This meant additional work for the chefs, but when they noticed the huge smiles on the soldiers’ faces they didn’t mind at all. Other celebra- tions included the 173rd celebration of Ramnuggur, the LAD’s

Corps birthday and the Regiment’s 30th birthday. This saw LCpl Serafina produce two of the biggest cakes ever to commemorate these special occasions. She showcased her skills and quickly became the BG’s ‘go to’ cake baker; a fact rubber stamped by the 2000 cup-cakes baked for a local charity event in Tallinn.
