selflessly being buried alive for the remainder of the group to locate her using their transceivers. Unfortunately for said guest none of the KRH Officers could quite believe that batteries “were not included”. Don’t say our hosting standards are slipping. Mishaps aside the SF2 group had a great time, showing improve- ment all over and some walking away with a recommend for SF3. For those that didn’t quite make the grade, perhaps more time spent on piste performance than your fingers in a cheese fondue!
The accommodation was first rate: each group of six sharing an apartment with four beds and its own kitchen. Our culinary skills were tested, and in some cases found wanting: The Tp Ldrs, Garlic Baz (OC Recce) and Enthusiastic Al (Ops Officer), deprived of their usual chef support, reverted to student mode living off a mix of over cooked pasta, beans and a sizable and ever maturing lump of Gruyere cheese. After initial Recces into the local area Garlic Baz and his trusty sidekick Pickle (Capt Nichol) decided their shaggy, poorly kept locks didn’t meet OPSEC requirements and with a pair of rusty nail clippers from the hotel lost and found (rumoured to have been left behind by Sgt Bradbury in 2018) began their local restyling. The results were received with mixed reviews however the aim was achieved, now they really did look like..... the locals.
With it being the first time some of the soldiers had been abroad for a non-tactical reason, the cultural exposure of Apres-ski was equally as important as development opportunities as the physi- cal demands of the day. The local bars were frequented, with the more adventurous types venturing away from known brands of beer and sampling the local brews. But, of course with the

physical stresses of the day, almost all were tucked up early in bed looking forwards to the next day’s lessons.
All the students performed admirably, with displays of constant determination and grit they were really put thorough their paces. With numerous messages from resort staff (and a few chalet girls) asking when we will return, and with zero injuries and even fewer significant incidents the adventurers left with the feeling the rep- utation of the KRH in the French Alps couldn’t be higher. What’s left now is to ensure an equally high reputation is garnered again in the Swiss alps with the ski team for 23/24...
