Kayaking – a work in progress...
Afew keen beans from the Officers’ Mess braved various local water ways in 2022, with inten- tions to ‘get fitter’ and make the most of Sports afternoons, and also with an aspiration to launch for the Devizes to Westminster race, or something simi- lar... but maybe shorter.
With gentle tutelage from Capt ‘It’s better if you stay on top of it’ Skrine some nice paddles were had on some really quite narrow and racy kayaks. It’s just for fun for now, but watch this space for 22/23...

Enduro – Hussars on 2 wheels
“Who wants to get their motorbike licence?” used to be an SSM’s ‘go to’ when trying to get Tprs to volunteer for some bone tasking, but not anymore. 2022 saw the formation of the KRH Motorcycle Enduro Team, with members competing in Army level competition throughout the season. Wednesday after- noons have seen the team conducting training sessions at moto- cross tracks, Army training areas and any muddy green lane they
can find.
Sgts Duncan, Noble and LCpl Parry have all raced in the Inter Corps Championship for the RAC with varying levels of success, usually ending with LCpl Parry towards the top of the Clubman Class and Sgt Duncan often upside down in a ditch with his motorbike on top of him.
The season culminated in Ex HARD RIDE 22, the 3-day Army enduro Championship. In October this year, it was hosted by the RAC and REME in Bovington. The track comprised of a 9-mile loop with special test stages through the wettest, sandiest terrain imaginable. By the end of the event, where man and machine had been tested to, and sometimes beyond, their limit of endurance, Cpl Campbell emerged victorious winning the Jimmy James Shield as the top rider in the RAC – an achievement of which he should be very proud.
The team continues to develop with a view to the 2023 season. The Regiment’s return from Ops should see more raw recruits re-enforcing the team and building on a very successful first year. If you’re reading this and feel left out, don’t hesitate to come and get involved.
