New Enclosed Toddler Play Area, Thrapston Peace
Memorial Park
Regular users of the Peace Memorial Park will have seen a new toddler play area being built. It is now complete! The play area includes equipment for physical play, investigative play and a sensory planted area.
The design of the play area also caters for children who are not able bodied. The basket swing and roundabout can be used with assistance and there are two interactive games which can be accessed independently.
The play area has been funded by the Town Council and its funding partners to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the park coming into the Council’s ownership; thus the design includes the theme of remembrance and peace as illustrated
by the graphics on the pathway and the commemorative arch at the entrance. The archway was designed and created by Leicestershire based chainsaw sculptor Peter Leadbetter.
Another nod towards the park’s history is the interactive elephant – inspired by the ‘Elephant Tree’ which once stood in the park.
Parents will particularly welcome the covered seating area surrounded by lavender and rosemary with fine views over the park towards the church. A lovely place to relax whilst the children play safely in the park.
The play park was the winning design, in a competitive tender, which met
and indeed exceeded the Councillor’s specification for an innovative and imaginative play area. Designed and constructed by Milton Keynes based company Kompan UK, the Councillors hope this play area will give pleasure to the children of Thrapston for many years to come.
