Ice Block Treasure Hunt
You’ll need: plastic tub (used ice cream tub ideal), small toys, water, a freezer, child-friendly digging tools (spoons, toy hammer, etc.) and a tray
How to: Fill a tub with small toys, then fill with water. Place the tub in freezer and leave until the water has frozen
solid. Remove from freezer
and take the frozen block out
of the tub. Place on a tray and get digging! Children can spend hours chipping away at the ice to release the ‘treasure’.
Why not put in certain colours and numbers of objects and encourage children to ‘find a green toy’; ‘find 3 blue toys’; or ‘find an item beginning with the letter A’. You could
add in some coins and treat the hunters to an ice cream when they successfully find them!
