Oundle Horticultural Society held their
99th 2-Day Summer Show in July at Laxton Cloisters, Oundle. It was lovely to welcome so many patrons and visitors to the Show after a gap of two years.
The wonderful fragrance from the flower displays, the near-perfect fruit and vegetables provided an amazing display, especially impressive after the difficult weather conditions leading up to the show. The cakes were delicious and the Showstoppers worthy of a Paul Hollywood handshake! The handicraft entries had such attention to detail. Newly introduced this year was the Transformation Challenge. The 1st prize was awarded to a handbag made from an art inspired tie belonging to a much- missed dad. The pieces of artwork, woodwork and sculpture showcased such talent. The photography section provided inspiration
for us all. The Greatrex Cup was awarded to ‘Glass Sculptures in Kew Gardens’ the best photograph in the Evening Illuminations class. The decoratives and children’s contributions
are always enjoyed, especially the decorated birthday cake of ‘Mr McGregor’s Garden’ by a young competitor.
Next year will be the society’s 100th Anniversary 2-Day Show and the committee is planning a special Show, so please put us in your diary for July 2023.
We would love you to enter, there are classes to suit everyone-sweet peas, flowers, decorative(flower arranging), vegetables, fruit, cookery, handicrafts, art, photography, sculpture, pottery, woodwork, and children’s classes. There are modest cash prizes and cups to be won. Come along and enjoy the fun!
