THE RANGER
TAVERN
Over the past six months, The Ranger
Tavern has been the heart of many
sociable and memorable events.
Thanks to the efforts of Sgt Gary Joy,
one of the highlights was the showing
of the Euro 2024 watch parties,
followed by the Salamanca Day
celebrations.
The Halloween party was a huge
hit at the Tavern, and it also played
host to several other significant events
including the Tihar celebrations.
A, B, and R Company hosted BBQs to
mark the honour of those leaving their
respective Companies. These events
offered a chance to reflect on shared
experiences, say goodbye, and to look
ahead to new beginnings for those
moving on.

SUAS / LETHALITY / OSW
The evolution of the 4 RANGER Training Wing
into the Operational Support Wing (OSW)
this year has been designed to directly
enhance the ever-growing operational
output of 4 RANGER.
A significant effort has been in sUAS, a
system which the Bn has possessed for
several years. There have been several
evolutions in the Bn’s approach, however, the
most notable has been the focus on the use of
FPV systems. These highly agile systems will
be recognisable to anyone who has seen the
sUAS footage coming out of Ukraine and are
an increasingly significant element of several
theatres across the world.
While the Army works to officially procure
and deliver FPV systems and training, 4
RANGER has turned to the sport of Drone
Racing to hone our skills in
anticipation. The procurement
of simulator equipment and
the Army
works to
officially
procure
and deliver
FPV
systems
and
training
micro FPV systems, as well as developing
networks into the sUAS industry, has allowed
members of the Bn to put in the hours needed
to get acquainted with the complex systems.
As a result our Drone Racing Team has
put in impressive performances at several
competitions.
In other drives to further lethality we have
continued to build on experimentation lessons
from Project CAPSTONE CONVERGENCE 4,
seeing continued work with experimental
communications and protective equipment.
Notably, much of this equipment was put to
the test in Montana on Ex ROCKY FALCON,
where OSW supported
B Coy alongside
elements of 1st US
Special Forces
Group.
