TEAM
V3NTURE
– A RIFLES
OFFICER’S
PERSPECTIVE
3,000 miles of ocean,
approximately 40 days at sea -
including Christmas and New
Year’s Eve and being closer to
people on the International
Space Station than on land,
are just some of the things
that Capt Rob Treasure
(1 RIFLES), Capt Charles
Newman (7 Para RHA), and
Capt Rob Cross (1 WG) have
been experiencing during
their Atlantic crossing.
The trio are taking part in
the World’s Toughest Row - Atlantic, which
began on 12th December 2024. They are
rowing unassisted from La Gomera to
Antigua, a challenge that is seeing them
face unpredictable, tumultuous waters.
While both the start and finish points may
be ideal Christmas destinations, the stretch
of ocean in between is far from idyllic.
Common questions the team are asked
include:
•
•
•
•
How long will it take? Last year’s trio’s
winners completed the journey in 37
days.
What’s your shift pattern? Two hours on,
one hour off.
How much food do you take? We’ll
consume over 5,000 calories of dry
rations and snacks each day.
Do you get seasick? Yes.
MORE STORIES
•
Where do you go to the toilet? We have
a bucket, carefully labelled to avoid
confusion with the one we use for
washing…
Having completed the mandatory courses,
160 hours of on-water training, medical
training, and psychological sessions,
the team’s final hurdle is the pre-launch
inspection. Three officers taking on G4 –
what could possibly go wrong?
The trio aims to raise £200,000 for four
chosen charities, including Macmillan
Cancer Support and Care for Casualties.
