ASSOCIATIONS & WELLBEING
Field of Remembrance, Westminster Abbey
This year’s ceremony
was held on a
bright but cold
day at the Field of
Remembrance and
there was a strong
police presence to
ensure that potential
demonstrators were
not able to disrupt
the commemoration.
HRH The Duchess of
Gloucester opened
the 96th Field of
Remembrance and
was able to meet our
RIFLES veterans who
stood opposite our
plot, which is marked
with 62 crucifixes
denoting the fallen
Riflemen since the
regiment’s inception
in 2007.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY,
LONDON & SOUTH-EAST
Planning in earnest started mid-year
for this significant event in the national
calendar, with impressive support
the bereaved families and lay regimental
wreaths at the graves, and it is testament
provided by 5 and 7 RIFLES as well
as 4 RANGER. Without doubt it would
not have been a success without their
efforts, which also included serving and
veteran Riflemen from our antecedent
regiments. London and the South East
has the graves of 21 fallen Riflemen
of The Rifles. What stands out is the
willingness of veterans to engage with
to the respect and brotherly regimental
bonds that are still going strong.
In addition, veteran Riflemen also
marched to and from the Cenotaph from
Horse Guards Parade and although the
numbers marching are still modest, this
in large part is due to the still strong
antecedent regimental associations,
which will grow in time.
