Ex TERMINUS STRIKE
Ex TERMINUS STRIKE took place in
the autumn over four training areas in
the north of England and south-west Scotland: Otterburn, Kielder Forest, RAF Spadeadam and Galloway Forest. Across this vast battlespace, each company had the opportunity to exercise for a 2-week period, rehearsing and testing skills they had developed over the past year.
The exercise required a focus on Mechanised manoeuvre across long distances and through complex terrain, dispersed from the Battalion HQ and against a ‘near peer’ enemy.
The exercise began in Otterburn with an operation to seize an enemy controlled airfield. Each company was then tasked to seize objectives that led them further and further into the dense woodland of Kielder Forest, forcing them to use their MASTIFF vehicles in conjunction with dismounted fighting.
After a series of ambushes and raids designed to fragment the enemy, the companies moved to RAF Spadeadam to conduct a deliberate attack on a disused missile silo. A 150-mile tactical road march across the Scottish border to Galloway Forest preceded a final raid on a small farmstead that represented the enemy’s HQ.
This exercise was a brilliant culmination to our mechanised training in 2021 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
