BAND & BUGLES
In September, Band RIFLES welcomed
our new Director of Music (DOM), Major Jason Griffiths, who takes over from his predecessor, Major Justin Teggarty. After a significant time away from engagements due to COVID19, Band RIFLES was delighted to perform some community engagements at Worthy Down (WD), starting with a Sounding Retreat (SR) outside Regimental Headquarters on the 16th September 21, with our new DOM.
Due to our close connections with the
local Garrison, we recently performed our annual community event, ‘Proms in the Park’ at Worthy Down. There was an excellent crowd in attendance and Band RIFLES enjoyed playing a variety of music ranging from musical selections to themes from well-known movie blockbusters. The second half of our performance incorporated music commonly heard at Last Night of The Proms themed events, offering a chance for enthusiastic audience participation.
Like all soldiers in The British Army, we get to take part in Adventurous Training (AT). This year, Band RIFLES’ AT package was in
two locations. Group one, based in The North Pennines, enjoyed a week of mountain biking, kayaking and hill walking. Group two, based at Joint Services Adventurous Training Sailing Centre (JSATSC) in Gosport, sailed around The Solent and some even ended up as far as Dartmouth. The Unit thoroughly enjoyed all this challenging AT which luckily took place during good weather and offered a welcome break from our normal routine.
