The future has changed for D Company within 1ITB. Due to the new system for infantry cap badging the Rifles Company HQ are being split up and moved. This movement process also included our nurturing team which has come under
a new chain of command. Whilst this initially caused some internal challenges, being Rifleman, we will seize the initiative and make this work to our advantage.
Recruits will now arrive at the ITC not knowing their cap badge and are simply Infantry recruits for the first 11 weeks (Basic phase) of training. During this period, the new recruits will have completed a personal preference proforma and have three choices. By week 10 of training, the recruits will have been informed of their regiment and at week 12, after successful completion of their drill

for the Infantry Training Centre, as it hosted what will likely be the last double-off for
the foreseeable future. The 14th of January 2022 saw 55 Rifleman across two platoons double off the square towards the start of their careers in their new battalions. It was apt that Major Matt Darby, who is coming to the end of a career that has spanned over four decades, led a successful parade and oversaw fellow Rifleman passing out into his regiment. With Colonel Sam Cates, a former
event had a strong family atmosphere.
The reason this may be the last double-off at ITC is that the Army has now moved
to ‘pan-infantry loading.’ This means that recruits will now arrive as infantrymen with no designated regiment. Towards the end
of Phase 1 training, they will submit their preferences on location, role, and cap-badge which will be allocated accordingly. This new process is to even out recruitment across the entire infantry. What this does mean
