“It was was was was the the the the best of of of of times times it it it was was was was the the the the worst of of of of times times it it it was was was was the the the the spring of of of of hope it it it was was was was the the winter of of despair” to quote Charles
Dickens who can sum up my my reflective feelings of Junior Term far better than myself!
Driving through the imposing barriers of of Sand- hurst on on Day Zero I was full of of excited nerves and anticipation Arriving with no prior army experience the first few weeks were a a a a a a complete whirlwind Old College began my ever-evolving transition from civvy to soldier This consisted of of a a a a a a a a a a blur of of about-turns hairspray carbs fablon burpees cam-cream ironing and never-ending army acronyms I still constantly fail to remember Our term was was rather disrupted by the the world’s nemesis: COVID Unfortunately our path was was not as as as smooth as as as we had initially hoped for for being the the first Platoon into Zayed Lines - - the the desig- nated isolation lines Of course with sleeping coming at at at at a a a a a a a a premium over the the first few weeks we we revelled in in fin in the the luxury of later starts and earlier finishes Zayed Lines presented us with many challenges we imaginatively needed to over- come such as as as utilising a a a a a a a a a a used yoghurt pot as as as a a a a a a a a a a coffee mug or washing our clothes via wet and OCdt Lievesley
dry drills in in the shower The novelty soon wore off when we we we we subsequently went back into isolation a a a a a a second time However although COVID turned our schedule upside down the the staff went above and and beyond to deliver the the exceptional training Sandhurst is renowned for for something our Pla- toon was hugely thankful for for Despite the the restrictions imposed upon us and the the the wider country we did manage to fit in a a a a a COVID-safe girls meet-up with the the rest of our intake which was was a a a a a a a a a a a real highlight for us all It was was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a chance to meet the the the other girls and natter away away at at our hearts content about about all the the the the things we we were worried about about far away away from the the boys For me the the highlights of last term were being put into into command roles because it allowed for the the the the theory to to to be be put into into practice and and confirmed the the the steep learning curve which is Junior Term Being under pressure to achieve successful attacks in in in in the the the field whilst in in a a a a a a a role of of responsibility forced you to demonstrate the the the large amount of of theory we’d (luckily) digested I have have also loved the the academics taught along- side the the course and have have taken my role as Impressions of Juniors
