Yomping!
Three members of the Catterick team (LtCol Ian McDicken, Maj Richard Lindsay & Pte Sam Lawati) undertook and completed the arduous “Cateran Yomp”. The aim of this was to hike 54 miles in under 24 hours over the undulating terrain of the Scottish highlands. The team made a fantastic effort and raised nearly one thousand ve hundred pounds (£1500) for the Army Benevolent Fund with Pte Lawati being particularly resourceful at extracting donations!

Maj ASA ARMER
After completing a course of treatment on an RAF patient, he kindly offered to take the staff from Dental Centres Chester and Weeton for a ‘little spin’ in an aeroplane. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, a team building day was arranged in August.

After being shown how to correctly wear the parachute and life jacket, and how to successfully leave the airframe mid air in case of an emergency, we made our way to the kit room with a degree of trepidation. Capt Kate Porter eventually got her kit to
t after donning 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of shoes and a winter ight jacket!
‘Hoots’ and ‘Tornado Tony’ were our pilots for the day. A nal check our sick bags were in situ in our ight suits, before
we individually made our way to the air eld to meet the Grob 115E Tutor we would be ying in. After take off, and a short stint of us trying to be pilot, it wasn’t long before we found out these aircraft were rather adept
at aerobatics! We were treated to many stomach churning
manoeuvers including loops, rolls, spins and stall turns, in between trying to take in the beautiful views along the Lancashire coast.
All that was missing was a Kenny Loggins song in the background of banter between Maverick and Goose. Fortunately we all made it back to terra rma without needing our sick bags and beaming smiles across our faces.
We would like to thank all staff at 10 AEF RAF Woodvale for their kind hospitality and enabling us to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.
