leadership skills have improved through instructing others and having that sense of achievement working as both an individual and in a team. I’ve recommended people and would encourage anyone else in the RADC to put their names forward even if you’re a complete novice or have been skiing before. It’s a great opportunity to build on your own skills, get involved in competing and to meet other people within the RADC.
When I attended my rst RADC Corps weekend in 2013, I approached the RADC ski team at their stand to show my interest as I have previously skied prior to transferring into the RADC. From there, I was lucky enough to attend the AMSSC 2014 where I
developed my Alpine skiing and learnt how to Nordic ski.
One of my best
experiences at this
event was being part
of the Nordic ski A
team and completing
the patrol race. The
sense of achievement
once we’d passed
the nish line was
amazing. At the
awards presentation I was part of a group of RADC ski team members (Alpine & Nordic
A teams) who won a trophy and individual medals, so felt pretty chuffed!
I found that I took to Nordic skiing like
a duck to water, I really enjoyed it, and at the nal debrief I was asked, along with
a few others, if I’d be interested in going
to Norway to take part in Ex DRAGON MEDIC 2014. I jumped at the chance as
it was a great opportunity to progress in Nordic skiing. In November 2014, I went
to the AMS Nordic skiing training camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in Norway
and even though we did about 4-5 hours of skiing a day, the routes we skied provided some beautiful scenery plus my tness and skiing technique continuously improved.
I also helped to coach a few people who improved because of it and that was a great
feeling.
I put myself forward
to attend the AMSSC 2015, which I went
to in February earlier this year. I competed in Alpine skiing along with Maj Leckey, Capt Tyrell and Maj Gracey, we won the AMS ladies trophy and all in the eye catching RADC lycra suits.
My training in Norway proved to be very useful as I
competed in Nordic races achieving better times than last year. I also helped to instruct Nordic skiing for people in the RADC team and gave knowledge on the black art of Nordic ski wax!
Competing in the fancy dress fun race was brilliant, everyone had great costumes and skiing in them was even funnier.
The RADC ski team won trophies and medals this year, it was a great meeting.....
With all my experiences attending
these AMS skiing events, I have de nitely developed as a JNCO. My con dence and
