Stafford’s exhibition, it was straight into the plans for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem. We used this to kick start a
new airborne initiative which we created in partnership with several other Regimental museums who have a shared airborne connection. Taking the lead on it with us was the team down at the Airborne Assault Museum at Duxford. We supported them
at their big event in June to commemorate the Normandy landings and they came
and supported us at our airborne event in August. They have also provided us free access to relevant archive material they hold on the 2nd Battalion South Stafford’s and loaned us various pieces of uniform and objects we could add to our permanent exhibits. Additionally they assisted us in planning our annual volunteer’s trip by providing free tickets for all of our volunteers to attend the Duxford Dakota event. This was a rare opportunity to see dozens of Dakotas together and flying in formation ahead of their flight over Normandy on the 6th June.
There was lots happening around the Arnhem 75 commemorations, as this was the last time anyone was expecting a major turn out from any surviving veterans. Sadly we lost one of most well-known veterans
The family of WO2 Ian Fisher at the opening of the Camp Fisher adventure playground. His wife Emma Fisher-Moore, his two sons William and James, sister Lynda Fisher and his parents Simon and Helen Fisher.
