SUMMER
READS
from the Library
Long school summer holidays are lovely but there are times when you need things to do and structure in your day to help the time pass.
All North Northamptonshire Council libraries are running their annual Summer Reading Challenge for school-age children. If you are looking for free creative activities for children during the school summer holidays pop in to Oundle Library. Alongside the reading portion, there will be twice-weekly activities at the library that are free to participate in. In the past these have included a Storytime combined with a craft activity, building rockets out of recycled materials and experimenting how far they fly, making a collage for the library wall, and sculpting animals out of salt dough.
Any child from age 4 to 11
To sign up, you come to the library for your Summer Challenge 2022 Gadgeteers starter pack. If your child doesn’t already have a library card, a parent or carer needs to sign them up for one, for free. During the challenge, your child reads six books of their choice, collecting stickers from the library as they go along to complete their challenge chart. Once they have read all their chosen books, their reward is a medal and a certificate.
Many children suffer from a summer slump
in reading and this is a perfect way to maintain a regular and fun reading routine which supports them academically.
Younger siblings and parent-readers
For those eager readers under the age of four, there is a Mini Challenge with a special sticker medal upon completion. And parents need not feel left out either, their Summer Six challenge runs alongside the Gadgeteers.
The Summer Challenge 2022 Gadgeteers runs from 9 July to 17 September. Oundle Library is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays – our friendly team look forward to seeing you!
The activities need to be booked in advance as spaces are limited. You can see the full range of activities on the Oundle Library Facebook page with instructions how to book. Facebook: @oundlelibrary
