Glapthorn Recreation Ground
Glapthorn Recreation Ground was formally opened on Saturday 21st May. The event, which was organised by the Glapthorn Playing Field Association, provided a showcase to celebrate the opening of this new facility.
The official opening was conducted by Councillor Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, along with
Tom Pursglove, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire. In an opening address, Malcolm Moss (Chairman of Glapthorn Parish Council) outlined the history of the recreation ground project which was initiated in 2016. The early years of the project focused on acquiring the land, working with local planning to turn two acres (0.81 hectares) of agricultural land

into a recreation ground and establishing funding for this £400k project; which was
a significant challenge for a small village community. With everything in place work started in 2020 and the project has subsequently delivered a much needed car park for Glapthorn Primary School, a children’s playground, an outdoor gym and a Sport England standard playing field. The recreation ground provides an outstanding community asset and an excellent pitch for local sports clubs of all age groups.
