       Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF Report
Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF have two detachments that are proudly affiliated with the Queen’s Dragoon Guards - Mold and Porthmadog detachments.
The year has been one of challenges but with the easing of restrictions tenta- tive steps were possible for detachments to reopen and thanks to some consider- able efforts a series of mini-camps were possible during the summer bringing a very welcome return to cadet activities. We also managed a short camp at Ness- cliff in October.
As the COVID-19 restrictions eased both detachments were delighted
to receive visits from the Regimental Engagement Team in September.
Star of the evenings was Lance Corporal Emrys Forlan Jones the QDG Regimental Mascot. LCpl Jones, together with his personal chaperone Farrier Major Mark Holland. Mark enthralled cadets with his passionate explanation of role Farrier Major and life with LCpl Jones. This 365 day a year job is in addition to his normal role within the QDG. LCpl Jones was well behaved and met a number of cadets and paid particular attention to those with his special treats. Thankfully all fingers were
accounted for during the encounter. One of the visitors to Mold was Trooper Jack Wade, who is a former Clwyd and Gwynedd Cadet Sergeant from Holyhead who has been with the QDG for four years. Jack, who has recently been busy supporting the NHS Covid efforts, is currently supporting the QDG Engagement Team whilst on stand by for operations. Jack spent time with the cadets demonstrating some personal equipment currently in use and chatting about his army career following his time
as an army cadet.
