  Regimental Comrades Association
President: Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier AS Richmond OBE Chairman: Mr C T Gibbons
My, where has that year gone! I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. It was great to see many of you at the Reunion who decided to take the plunge and attend. More on that later. This past year has seen some normality for most of us now that restrictions are being lifted. I do hope that you are all now moving about seeing family and friends alike.
Sadly, over this past year we have lost a number of our Veterans to this dreaded virus as well as through natural causes and I would therefore like to extend the Association’s sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Don’t forget that the Regimental family are always here to lend a helping hand when needed.
It was pleasing to have managed to make contact with an ex-Bay Donald McCaig who celebrated his 100th birthday on 11 November. Donald saw action at El Alamein and in Italy. Yet again the power of Facebook works wonders.
Some encouraging news. Since the introduction of the new online applica- tion form on the website we have had a steady stream of applications which is good to see. If you know of anyone out there who is not yet a member please steer them to: qdg.org.uk/join- the-rca/.
This is what we do...
Social gatherings have been steadily returning albeit with reduced numbers. Oswestry still went ahead without the sit down meal but thanks to the Sand- baggers turning up with their entourage and a few additions, namely Ivor Morris and crew, we still had a great weekend. Wessex Branch managed to hold two BBQs courtesy of
namely The Old Arcade pub (courtesy of Chris Jones) as The Goat Major (now The Bluebell) is no longer fit for purpose. It’s a traditional rugby pub so a perfect venue anytime of the year.
There are currently nine branches that are active, but we still need enthu- siastic individuals to help extend our
Dave and Sally Way again keeping within govern- ment guidelines managed to raise £600 that will go towards the Christmas hampers this year. For the first time, with thanks to Ivan Schumskji, the Sandbaggers visited The Ukrainian Youth Camp in Derby. Another excellent venue which included a pub on site....result!
Since the introduction of the new on- line application form on the website we have had a steady stream of applications
Branch network in South West Wales and North East Wales. We are also looking to expand as far north as Catterick or Scotland as I know there are many ex-QDG that have made these areas their home. If you are interested in the above or indeed an area not listed, please contact HHQ or myself. Contact details are on the website at qdg.org. uk/branches.
Once again thank you for your continued support to the Regiment and Regimental Comrades Association over the past
Thankfully we managed
to hold the Reunion this
year at a new venue, the
Masonic Hall in Cardiff,
with eighty plus sitting
down to a lovely meal of
Beef Wellington. The attendance was very good considering some restric- tions and I know that many came away having enjoyed it and will look forward to it again next year. Also encouraging was a new adoption to the family,
year as without you we would not continue to exist. We look forward to meeting up with you all sometime next year.
