Scone Palace Garden Fair
It’s been a year since the inaugural Scone Palace Garden Fair back in 2022 and the Scottish Branch Committee had been planning to do to all again, but bigger and better for 2023. Transporting plants that people had grown specially for the event started at the Branch Committee meeting the week before when the first carloads were brought to the meeting and distributed in the car park.
Thursday 1st June and team 1 was
busy setting up at Scone to make sure
our gazebo and tables were full of plants, seed, and SV mags ready for the Friday & Saturday event. Teams 2 and 3 had a great time and worked non-stop, especially the youngsters. The weather was fantastic
across the whole event and the crowds just kept coming.
Interest at our stand was relentless with questions, queries and sales of plants and bundles of leek transplants a plenty. We were delighted to see George Anderson (Beechgrove Garden) pop along for his leeks and picked up a copy of the SV Magazine (see pic). Brian Cunningham (Beechgrove garden and head Gardener at Scone) also visited during the event and reflected on how well the event had gone, which bodes well for next year.
Many thanks to all our members who helped, from growing plants earlier in the year, transporting them, organising the display and being on hand to support the stand and help the public. We had a great
selection of good quality plants and herbs, and we always note what the public are interested in. This year, a lot of people were looking for various types of beans, so that’s something to think about for next year. A big thanks to Franchi Seeds, Kings seeds and DT Brown for providing packets of seeds, which were also a big draw to our display, and the public were chuffed to pick up a giveaway of top-quality seeds along with some of our older editions of the SV Magazine. All these together with our volunteers helped people understand more about the NVS and what we are all about. Thanks everyone, let’s do it all again in 2024.
