 The Buglers’ Association has continued
to emerge from the constraints of the pandemic. 2021 saw us benefit from the release of 13 silver bugles which had
been carefully restored by McQueens, the renowned musical instrument repairer in Manchester. Some were formally Royal Berkshire Regiment bugles whilst six of them are from the Royal Green Jackets Association, who generously paid for their repair and have loaned them to the Buglers’ Association for which we are very grateful. Hopefully we will be able to play them in fanfare at the 2022 Royal Green Jacket Gathering in Winchester.
The Association committee members and regional coordinators were able to meet in person in Shrewsbury for the first time for over 1 1/2 years to confirm our procedures, our constitution and the important authority vested in our Association to be the sole association for veteran buglers within the wider Regiment.
The most prestigious event over the period was the turf cutting ceremony in June for the new Veteran’s Orthopaedic Centre which is being built within the grounds of the Robert and Agnes Jones Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. Buglers Stan Wilkinson and Don Somers sounded fanfares whilst the Lord-Lieu- tenant of Shropshire Anna Turner and Air Vice Marshall Tony Stables, Chairman of COBSEO, cut the turf for this vital new facility for our veterans. Our Buglers have been invited to sound at the opening of the centre in 2022.
