This has been an interesting challenge, with lots of interpretation and imagination going into some of the entries.
WO Bell said the decision to run a photography project was an easy decision to make.
"As Media Officer for the Wing, and Corps Photographer for the North of England, it was
the natural activity to focus on, to try and provide something different for the Cadets to get involved in rather than just logging on to Teams and sitting through digital presentations every night. The challenges set allowed them to think and observe the world around them a little more than normal, especially after being stuck in lockdown. Rather than just choosing a winning image each week, we've also asked the cadets to talk about why
they chose to take the picture, and describe what techniques they used to end up with the final result.
I've been very pleasantly surprised with the quality and abilities of some of the cadets, especially as teaching photography is quite difficult without face to face practical sessions."
The accompanying images were all taken by cadets of 1323 (Ryedale) Sqn-Cadets Eva Foots, Amber Methven, Amelia Forrester and Louis Camps deserve a special mention for producing some really great images.
NEW AVIATION OFFICER APPOINTED
The Wing is pleased to announce the appointment of Flight Lieutenant Adam Waudby to the role of Wing Aviation Officer.
FLt Lt Waudby is ideally suited for the role,
as a cadet he graduated from the first Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course in 2007 (QAIC 1) and spent over 50 weekends at Linton On Ouse and Altcar teaching aviation subjects at the Regional Activity Centres. At age 16, he earnt his silver wings by completing a solo flight on the now retired
Grob Vigilant glider. Flt Lt Waudby also enjoyed aircraft recognition, and was appointed Corps Air Recognition Captain, winning the Heracles trophy for best individual in the Corps in 2009.
Flt Lt Waudby is the current Wing Music Officer, and will be continuing in this role for the foreseeable future.
Flt Lt Waudby said of his appointment “I’m excited to have taken up post as the Wing Aviation Officer. I’ve always been quite passionate about all things Aviation - those that have been around the Wing a while will remember the days when I used to be really active in the area, especially with flight
simulators! It’s an important job, and I’m looking forward to working towards improving the aviation offered within the Wing.”
The Wing would like to thank Squadron Leader Geoff Day, the previous Aviation Officer for his efforts in supporting the Wing with aviation activities during most trying times, and we wish him well in his retirement.
