                                 NEW NATURE PARK
for Thrapston
An exciting new project in Thrapston is calling on volunteers to help create a new nature park from wasteland, woodland and green space in the town.
The Thrapston Nene Valley Park Project aims to build a space of peace and tranquillity, where friends and families can meet, nature can thrive, and adventure can begin.
The 30-acre area alongside the River Nene and the lakes off Meadow Lane is owned
by Thrapston Town Council. A volunteer management team has been granted permission to lead the creation of the nature park, which will complement park areas already in the town.
David Manning, Project Chair, said “Our town is growing and it’s clear we need more green space for families to respectfully enjoy our beautiful countryside in the heart of the Nene Valley.”
The team are building an army of Park Makers to tackle physical work such as clearing
land, planting and maintenance, as well as a team to support marketing, fundraising and grant applications, and offer expertise in building, landscaping and local wildlife.
“This is a community project on a grand scale,” said David, “So we’re calling on local people and businesses for financial support too, and donations of trees,
plants, fencing, gates, benches and signage, as well as equipment and expertise for our park making sessions.”
The team is working with The Wildlife Trusts, Destination Nene Valley, local councils and clubs for support and guidance.
“It’s incredibly exciting,” said David, “There’s lots to do but the result will be a nature park that can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
