TUCANO DISPLAY TEAM 2019
With the mighty Tucano going out of RAF Service this year, the decision was made to bring back the solo Tucano Display! This gives the team a great opportunity to showcase this legacy aircraft for the final time!
The Tucano Display has not been on the air show circuit for a number of years, but the 2019 solo Display pilot, Flt Lt Liam Matthews, aims to demonstrate the prowess and capability of this iconic training aircraft!
Having been in RAF Service for 30 years being used for RAF and Royal Navy Pilot and Navigator training, a huge number of the UK’s frontline pilots have either been a student on it, or instructed on it.
The routine Liam is practising has all been approved, and having started at a base of 4000ft, he is now down to 1500ft! With the increasing time he gets to work at Linton in the circuit, he will soon be down to 500ft and is making final preparations as the team work
towards Public Display Authority next month. Hopefully you will get to see Liam at some of the air shows and events throughout the 2019 season!
The 2019 Tucano Display Team would like to thank all of its supporters including Breitling, Babcock, Osprey Europe, Mountain
Equipment, and a particular mention to the RAF Benevolent Fund who are celebrating their momentous centenary year! All of your support is greatly appreciated and will hopefully help to inspire the next generation!
Ladies and Gentleman, the Tucano Display Team 2019!
SSAFA
‘SSAFA provides lifelong support to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army or the Royal Air Force. We're ready to help you and your family, whenever and wherever you need us.’*
Forces families know that times of change and uncertainty can be very unsettling and SSAFA understands this too. Here at Linton, although preparations are being made for the RAF’s departure, it doesn’t mean that SSAFA is winding down. It will remain active on camp for as long as possible, offering support and help to people here.
Our work at Linton is two-fold. First, our In-Service Committee raises funds for SSAFA to use locally and we do this by running various events – the Zumba Challenge was well attended, but oddly enough the cake sales and stalls and our Big Brew are by far and away the most popular! We are indebted to anyone who answers our calls and bakes for us and the
results are always very tempting. Some of the money we raise is used to fund various events for the benefit of our community – the Children’s Hallowe’en Party was a great success as was a Race Night in the Maple Leaf and the Carols Under the Tree involved the local village community as well and we were again lucky that we have so many willing bakers to provide refreshments.
The second aspect of SSAFA’s work here is to provide support and assistance to people when they most need it. The SSAFA Social Worker deals with all enquiries in confidence and provides advice or practical help as appropriate and which the funds we raise help to provide. This might include assistance with travel costs, lifts to hospital or the provision of vital equipment. SSAFA deals with all its clients and any help they receive confidentially and sympathetically.
‘Millions of people with a connection to the Forces are eligible for our help, including all serving members and former members of all ranks of the Armed Forces who have received one day’s pay.’*
In addition to the Services listed at the top, SSAFA is also able to offer support to all equivalent Volunteer Reserve Forces as well as those who serve or have served in the Nursing Services.
Those who in turn support our Service Personnel are also eligible for SSAFA’s help and this includes wives and husbands and former wives and husbands, widows and widowers, civil partners and former civil partners, those who are, or were, in an established relationship with a beneficiary, children dependent on a beneficiary and those who provide, or provided, care for a beneficiary.
‘Whatever challenges they’re facing, members of the Armed Forces community can rely on SSAFA. Our network of more than 5,000 trained volunteers provides practical and emotional support for serving personnel, veterans and military families across the UK and worldwide.’*
