2018 CO’s CUP
Competitors: Caterers, 72 Sqn, Babcock, ATC, YUAS, Med Centre/Support Wing
Over the year, the PEd flight hosted 5 events to put the sections through blood, sweat and tears to fight for the CO’s Cup title and ultimately to get a hold of the CO’s Cup Trophy!!!
In February, it all kicked off with a game of dodgeball which was certainly not for the weak. There were some questionable body shots and some great independent action when teams were left with one man standing. However, the competition finished with smiles all around and 72 Sqn dominating the field with their A and B team finishing 1st and 2nd.
April brought some quality volleyball action between the 4 teams that competed. Question was, were 72 Sqn going to put all their volleyball training to use and keep up their winning streak?
Answer... yes, yes they were. It was a close call for 2nd and 3rd between med centre and caterers however the med centre pulled it out the bag.
Summer was very welcomed and a chance for everyone to get outside and bring out their inner child on the giant inflatable assault course. With plenty of participants (including a guest appearance from the Glasgow University Air Squadron) ready
for the challenge and 72 Sqn being an unfortunate no show, the teams were eager to win. With 6 different events incorporated over the 6-part inflatable, there were many points ups for grabs. The title could have been anyone’s! After plenty of tumbles, and laughs the catering section worked hard to claim victory. BBQ and beers were thoroughly enjoyed afterwards as teams mixed and socialised amongst each other.
Superstars was up next, the hardest of the events by far (and I’m sure the competitors would agree). Cpl Needham was obviously feeling particularly harsh when organising this one. 72 Sqn, YUAS and Med Centre were put through their paces and each team grizzed it out to the end putting their strongest, fittest and fastest members forward for events. 72 Sqn came back fighting to claim that 1st place again.
The final event of the year was the Christmas Extravaganza. This saw 3 teams go head to head in several silly games (see photographs for evidence). It was great to see people letting their hair down and just getting involved no matter how ridiculous they thought they looked.
After the games, the standings were 72 Sqn, ATC and Babcock but it could have
all changed in the quiz that was to follow. However, it did not and 72 Sqn continued their lead with excellent performances in the dingbats round and blindfold drawing to secure the win and the overall CO’s CUP WINNERS OF THE YEAR. The cup was presented to the team by Group Captain Taylor and the year was finished on a high with mulled wine and mince pies.
CO’s Cup 2019 is already underway, with the next competition taking place Tues 30 Apr for a spot of Volleyball. We encourage everyone to come down and get involved, even if you’re struggling to get a team, we’re more than happy to help recruit some members.
*zero score for non-attendance teams.
