The Queen’s Medal for Champion Shots was first issued by Queen Victoria in 1869 and is awarded annually to the individual who is the best shot in both the Regular and Reserve Forces. The medal’s obverse bears the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse shows the winged mythological goddess, Pheme with a trumpet in her left hand and rising from her throne to crown a warrior with a laurel wreath. If the medal is to
follow previous traditions, next year it will become the King’s Medal, as it did under King George V, making this the last Queen’s Medal ever issued by Queen Elizabeth II.
“It was an honour to be awarded The
Queen’s Medal for being the best shot
in the Army Reserves and justifies the
dedication, commitment and hard work The put in by the team and team manager,
WO1 Jamie Dwyer. It rounded off a very
successful season for the Battalion
Shooting team and we are looking forward
to working hard this year to replicate
2022’s achievements.”
