   8 RIFLES
8 RIFLES JNCO Development weekend, Prince Rupert Hotel Shrewsbury
After the recent success of the Senior NCO Development weekend, it was decided that E Company, 8 RIFLES would host the first JNCO Development weekend in September in Parsons Barracks, Donnington.
After an opening address from the RSM, the JNCOs received several development
and education briefs from key personalities on career management and leadership. Sjt O’Brien, E Company, informed the JNCOs that they were to sit a Military Knowledge test and asked them to summarise their reaction to this on a piece of paper. After being split in to five syndicates, they were asked to discuss
a pillar of mental resilience per group. After summarising it to the other syndicates, they discussed strategies to implement that pillar and briefed once again. After revealing that the test was not taking place, but a method of invoking stress. After reading out some
of the reactions the NCOs had originally submitted, they discussed how they can use Mental Resilience within their career and
to support their subordinates. After lunch,
the Commanding Officer setting out his expectations of what he expects from a Junior Commander within 8 RIFLES.
Having had time to reflect on the day’s

On completion of the tour, the JNCOs departed Shrewsbury Castle and made the short walk to the historic, Grade II listed and former home to King James I, The Prince Rupert Hotel, for a Regimental Dinner complete with regimental Tablecloths, Silver, and Battle Honour themed tables.
