114 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards
“Savoia Cavalleria” activities
In the last year the regiment was engaged
largely in homeland security operation
in significant and prestigious Italian
cities particularly in Milan, Florence and
Rome, a constant contribution of troops
that will involve SAVOIA CAVALLERIA
throughout 2025.
In Hungary, within the framework of
the NATO operation Enhanced Vigilant
Presence, platoons spent an intensive
training period with “Centauro” heavy
armoured vehicles; the same personnel
participated in airborne activities together
with their Hungarian paratroopers.
Our paratroopers were committed in
continuous training activities also abroad
in interesting exchanges with allied or
cooperating troops. In one of the most
important, a combined task group was
deployed to Jordan where, in the month
of June, the pathfinder platoon carried
out profitable training with Royal Jordan
army, USA, and a company of 2nd Bn
“The Royal Gurkha Rifles” in FIBUA, joint
snipers training and hely assault.
During the annual major field exercise
of the Airborne Brigade, SAVOIA CAVAL-
LERIA deployed its Task Group Hq
by leading an ISTAR task force in the
training areas of Tuscany for a two weeks
intensive and continuous training.
In October a patrol of the regiment
participated in the 2024 edition of the
“Cambrian patrol” deserving silver
medal. In December, another team of
SAVOIA CAVALLERIA carried out a
training session with colleagues from the
2nd Irish Battalion in the training areas of
the Magilligan Cadet Training Centre in
Northern Ireland.
At the same time horse mounted
training activities and equestrian compe-
titions were also hosted at the facilities of
the regiment’s Military Riding Centre with
a significant participation by civilian and
military teams across the nation in the
various categories involved, succeeding
in the aim of promoting equestrian sports
activities.
