Dyfed and Glamorgan Army Cadet Force
E Squadron Dyfed and Glamorgan
ACF have had a phenomenal 2024. All
of our cadets and CFAVs have shown
perseverance and just how much can
be achieved with a positive attitude. On
top of completing their regular non-resi-
dential training, joint training weekends
with fellow companies, and community
engagement events, the cadets attended
several extraordinary experiences.
We kick off the highlights with 10
x E Squadron QDG cadets attending
“Cavalry Cadet 100” to assist with the
Cavalry 100th Anniversary parade in
Hyde Park, London, and support the
event through handing out programs.
Dyfed and Glamorgan ACF submitted
a team that E Squadron Cadets solely
represented for the Cadet Skill At Arms
Meet (CADSAAM). The CADSAAM team
achieved Silver Medals in the Falling
Plate Shoot and was only pipped to the
post by one second! The Duke of Edin-
burgh Award is a nationally recognised
award for challenging young people to
learn new skills, support the community
through volunteering, improve personal
fitness, explore new areas from expedi-
tions, and make new friends. 2024 saw
three Bronze award passes and one
Silver award pass. Back in March, we
attended Techniquest, which is a science
and technology discovery centre. Cadets
from E Squadron got stuck in with over
one hundred interactive challenges
that included every element of STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics). Throughout the year we
have been visited by members of the
1st Queen Dragoon Guards (QDGs)
Engagement Team to support E Squadron
through detachment visits, interest talks,
kit demonstrations, and assisting with
teaching. It was also a pleasure for the
Farrier Major to be in attendance at our
end-of-year awards dinner. Thank you
for all of your help! Dyfed and Glam-
organ (D&G) also entered a team for
the Cambrian Patrol Competition. Our
Cambrian Patrol section comprised
a team of eight cadets, two of whom
were E Squadron. The competition is a
36-hour exercise conducting a patrol
across the Sennybridge Training Area.
Where the cadets demonstrate navi-
gation, teamwork, fieldcraft and tactics
completing tasks over 26 km against
other Counties Cadet Teams. The team
from D&G placed 3rd out of 22 teams.
Our cadets were given the opportunity to
attend the Royal Military Academy (RMA)
Sandhurst to support the upcoming
Sovereign Parade. The lucky cadets were
given a guided tour of the Old College
at RMA Sandhurst and got to witness
Officer Cadets who had completed their
training to become newly appointed
2nd Lieutenants within the British Army.
Four E Squadron cadets were selected
to visit London to view the Colonel’s
Review at the Royal Horse Guards. They
witnessed the incredible parade of the
soldiers, multiple bands, and horses
that participated. Cdt Staff Sergeant
Measey and Cdt Sergeant Lemon were
appointed Lord Lietenant Cadets during
an awards ceremony presented by His
Majesty Lord Lieutenant Dyfed Ms. Sara
Edwards. Both of these cadets represent
the ethos of the Army Cadet Force, and
will carry out their Lord Lieutenant Cadet
duties over the next twelve months. As
well as being appointed a Lord Lieu-
tenant Cadet, Cdt Staff Sergeant Measey
was promoted to Sergeant Major and
has since been appointed the first QDG
Sergeant Major since 2016.
We could never have achieved this
without the tireless effort of our CFAVs
and commitment from the cadets. We
look forward to the challenges that 2025
brings!
