24 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards
Training Wing
2024 has been a “transformational” year
here at QDG Training Wing. Welcoming
in the new Training Officer – Capt Marc
Speight (apart from being a buckshee
LE and RDG he is actually an all right
bloke!). The “working” team consists
of SSgt Petre as RGSS, Sgt Canning
AFV(W) SNCO, Sgt Turner DCC SNCO
and Cpl Cope Courses Clerk JNCO. All
jokes aside, the Training Wing has a
resolute team that has worked hard this
year to ensure all SQN’s got out the door
in good stead.
2024 has seen the Regiment Deploy
on Op INTERFLEX, with both C and B
Squadron on separate tours of Op Cabrit.
The Training Wing has supported all
and be it organising training internally
/ externally, teaching courses, training
area bookings and convening of courses
it all happens with constant frictions and
it has been no easy feat for the team! this
year has seen the team spread between
3 locations and all juggling and wearing
several different hats. Although a tight
knit team with heavy banter and jokes,
there is some questionable in work and
extracurricular activities that must be
highlighted.
Cpl Cope – The unsung hero at the
wing works tirelessly to ensure all SP get
on course’s and quite often pushes for
the “YES” answer when outside estab-
lishments say “NO.” Any course that
any SP finds themselves on, Cpl Cope
will have had heavy involvement, he will
work tirelessly to ensure that he can get
SP trained. Copey has also invested his
own time respraying vehicles provided
by a Charity for Ukraine to use as battle-
field ambulances.
Sgt Turner – Now officially at Uber
geek status, has taken on the SUAS
Instructor role. Alongside anti-tank capa-
bility, painting models, drone racing and
Sgt Canning gas attack
Warhammer He is officially now ready
for a transfer to the Royal Signals and is
still banned from the dragon’s den and
nursery side of the Welfare office.
SSgt Petre (AKA Policy perv) has
spent a large portion this period ensuring
we do things to the right standard. With
the constant changes that we face you
can only imagine the burden of this role.
Clearly this attention was needed when
Steve Panks was still the custodian of the
MSA account. He has currently booked
Chez in for an appointment at spec
savers and bought him a calendar. Steve
left in 2019…
2024 has been a productive period
where we have put the Subunits as the
main effort. The heavy lifting done at the
wing to make life easier for the subunits
to be effective can sometimes go under
the radar. Everyone within the team at the
