1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards 31
Regimental Aid Post – Faithful in Adversity
2024 has been a challenging but
rewarding year for the 1st Queen Dragoon
Guards Regimental Aid post. Congratula-
tions went to Maj Pedley (RMO) and Sgt
Hanslow (Med Sgt) and the RAP Baby
Collection Fund growing a significant
investment meant for a gapped nurse PID;
with all other medics away on deploy-
ments, it left Cpl Green as the highest rank
and for vast periods, the only person in the
RAP. Luckily, Cpl Green was still able to
get away a represent the British Army in
Enduro motocross as well as represent
the Army Medical Services in Rugby.
LCpl Hiscocks, Cpl Carradus and
Cpl Headley have all deployed on
separate 6-month rotations on Opera-
tion CABRIT in Poland, providing high
levels of healthcare and training to Eagle
troop. During these deployments, each
medic has also worked as long side
partner nations, conducting in-opera-
bility training, teaching lifesaving skills
to local school children and have been
tested their clinical skills. However, these
deployments have not been without their
challenges such as - trying to navigate
the Polish medical system, working with
over-zealous GDMO’s (aka Dr Aero-med)
and in LCpl Hiscocks case- keeping a
battlefield ambulance on the road.
In July 2024 Cpl Headley deployed
on Ex Diamondback- a mounted joint
training exercise between the US and UK
taking place in the austere environment
of the Mojave Desert. The exercise incor-
porated complex and bespoke scenarios
including first line medical treatment
by Team Medics and Combat Medics
as well as casualty evacuation, with the
purpose of testing and developing the
unit’s operational capabilities.
LCpl Hiscocks, after completing a
winter tour on Operation CABRIT and
not wanting to experience the cold of a
British winter, volunteered himself for
a ‘sunshire tour’ on Operation TOSCA
in Cyprus. During his time in Cyprus,
LCpl Hiscocks has been supporting the
UN Flight line by providing emergency
cover, been instrumental in helping run
the medical centre and has been an
assessor on medical validations for both
the Slovakian and Argentinian medical
teams.
2025 is looking like another ■■■ year
for the Regimental Aid post, but with the
arrival of a few new faces in Sgt Nalwoga
(Nurse Sgt), Cpl Sanderson and LCpl
Galasky, I am confident the RAP will be
able to rise to any challenges and will
continue to support the Regiment to the
fullest its abilities.
