THRAPSTON ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
The evening of Tuesday 19th
April saw the return of the
Thrapston Annual Town
Meeting in-person at the
Plaza Community Centre,
after being held virtually for
the past two years due to the
pandemic. Nine community
groups were also present to
network and meet members of the public. Thank you to Volunteer Action, Souster Youth, Step n Grooves Dance School, Thrapston Heritage, U3A, Sea Cadets, North Northants Adoption, Thrapston Amateur Dramatics Society and Thrapston Plaza Opera for attending.
The evening started with a speech from, now former Mayor, Val Carter. After 15 years of serving Thrapston as a Town Councillor, and three terms as Mayor, Val has made the decision to step down. She was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her colleagues at the Council Office and given a much-deserved round of applause for her dedication and hard work over her tenure.
Val’s chosen charity as Mayor was NDAS (Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service) and over the past year, almost £7,000 has been raised for the
charity. Rachel Duncan, Chief Executive, was present to
give a talk on NDAS and all the work they do to support domestic abuse victims across the county.
The Youth Forum were also represented at the meeting with Jamie Jarman-Webb giving an
informative presentation. The Youth Forum has played an active part volunteering at numerous Town Council events and we look forward to continuing working with them.
The Annual Town Awards were then given to three recipients who had been nominated by members of the Thrapston community. These were Sharn Redpath, Emma Brown and Terry Tibbs. You can read their full nominations on the next page. Many congratulations to them all on their awards.
Cllr Craig Wheeler gave a speech looking ahead to the next year and Cllr Daniel Worley was on hand to inform the audience of details regarding a Neighbourhood Plan. Full minutes of the meeting are available
on the Thrapston Town Council website. It was wonderful to be able to hold the town meeting in-person again and thank you to everyone who attended.
