Heath Road. Here, Steve switched off the blue light and headlights as they drove towards the factory. Outside the gates, they got out of the car and looked around before examining the gates. There wasn’t any sign of lights or noise at the front of the derelict buildings, so they eased their way through a gap in the wire perimeter fence.
‘It’s no use flashing these,’ laughed Liam, switching off his torch. ‘We’ll have the entire night patrol here in seconds if someone is still gawping from those flats.’
‘How far are we going?’ whispered Steve.
‘We’ll go all the way around. Whoever was here, could be long gone by now, or they might stay overnight.’
The water in the bay rippled and glinted in the moonlight as the silhouetted shapes of the damaged buildings adopted a spooky appearance. After twenty minutes they came upon one building jutting out towards the bay. Rounding a brick wall, Liam stopped and motioned to Steve to be quiet. He put his head around the corner to see a wooden building in the moonlight.
Steve peered over Liam’s shoulder. ‘It looks new. I wonder what’s inside?’
‘Why are we whispering? No one can hear us,’ Liam grinned as he crept up to the door. ‘It’s locked, and the window is boarded up.’
A bright light suddenly flashed in a building across the yard and they heard footsteps crunching over debris. Staying in the shadows, they waited for the intruder to get closer. A tall figure passed by before they stepped out to reveal their identities.
