had to help her find a place to live and give guidance in managing her money in order to pay her debts. They also offered to find her sister Louisa once Marissa convinced them they had lost touch. She was told to write a letter to her and they would make sure her sister received it.
By the end of September, Marissa had received good news. She and her son could finally live together again in a one bedroomed flat in Lincolnshire. Having a new name, John Collins, took a long time to get used to, not to mention discovering that his parents had broken up. Marissa told him that his father had walked out and left her. John was devastated. He wanted to go back to school, but his mum first had to find a job and stay in one place instead of moving house all the time. Then he’d be able to start at a new school.
After waiting weeks to hear from her sister, Marissa sent a second letter, then another, and another, and began to wonder if the charity had forwarded them as they had promised. In a last-ditch attempt to persuade her sister, she tried once more and delivered her last begging letter to the charity office.
