Chapter One
‘It’s a bomb!’ shouted Lewis Palmer standing up. ‘Get out! Get out!’ Terrified students clattered tables, and knocked over chairs in a bid to escape from their classroom. Those closest to the door got out in seconds, leaving others to push and shove amid the shrill blasts of the fire alarm.
Moments earlier, students at Rauston Quay Academy had filed into classrooms for their first afternoon lesson. With registration completed, one teacher, Miss Taylor had begun by saying: ‘Take out your books,’ when a sudden boom echoed through the building. She didn’t raise her voice, but her controlled manner defused the ensuing panic. She ordered her students to leave the building by
