Harmonious Communities
How can we recognise if a community is in harmony with itself? The definition
of harmonious from the ‘Concise Oxford Dictionary’ is: ‘forming a consistent
or orderly or pleasing
or agreeable whole, concordant; free from dissent or ill-feeling; sweet- sounding; singing or playing tunefully’.
Our community in Thrapston is like a very large orchestra, all waiting to be brought in to create
a harmonic sound. Playing our part, contributing to the greater good.
We are so blessed in Thrapston to have so many wonderful, caring and supportive residents. There is balance in how acts of kindness are given, some choose to do it quietly behind the scenes not wanting or seeking praise, while others are more extrovert, who are often the shakers and stirrers. The

balance. Balance, that
which holds the equilibrium,
all things need balance,
for example ‘Rights and Responsibilities’. They are
twins, inseparable for the maintenance of balance. Can you imagine mixing the wrong ratios in cooking, confusing alkaline with acid soil in the garden and speaking when we should be listening, balance?
To create a state of balance, it requires us all to show respect to each other. Respect of difference, however much we may agree or disagree with people’s life choices.

ones who when required will shout from the roof tops, will beat the drum and speak truth to power.
We need you all in our metaphorical community orchestra, the beating drummers and the quiet instrumentalists. Balance is essential for the maintenance of a harmonious community.
So next time you are presented with a dilemma think, am I contributing to harmony or dis-harmony?
