1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery
Unit Welfare Team WO2 Keast
Since the last Journal the Welfare team have continued to support 1 RHA personnel and families during deployments and the various tasks that they have faced during this
period.
During this year, we have welcomed home both B Battery and A Battery (The Chestnut Troop) RHA from their deployments on OP CABRIT. The support from the Welfare team has been given whilst being under restrictions due to a global Pandemic. Although we were not able to offer any physical activities we were able to run a Christmas colouring competition for the chil- dren and delivered Christmas hampers and afternoon teas to families of those who were deployed.
During the Summer, as restrictions allowed we were able to start loaning out the Bouncy Castle and inflatable
assault course to 1 RHA personnel and fami-
lies which has proved very popular. We have
been able to fund and offer a family pass for Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm to allow our families the chance to enjoy a local attrac- tion (at a significantly reduced price) and have also supported AWS community events throughout the school holidays with a range of activities including paddle boarding.
The Welfare team have had a number of per- sonnel changes throughout this period hav- ing said farewell to Major G Williams RHA who moved to his new post as Garrison SO1, and the arrival of a familiar face as Major V A Worsley RHA returned to the Regiment as Unit Welfare Officer, although this will only be for a short period due to successfully being selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.
We have also seen WO2 Scott move on to 5 RA and the arrival of WO2 Keast who took up the post of Unit Welfare Warrant Officer. We have also welcomed LBdr Latham from B Battery into the team. Sadly, in the early part of next year we will be saying good- bye to SSGT Charlton who has been a big part of the Welfare team.
The Welfare team are looking forward to the remainder of the year with events now being able to take place. We have the Children’s Halloween party taking place in St Barbara’s Hall imminently and are busy planning the Children’s Christmas party.
This period has been a challenging one for the 1 RHA fam- ily and the team have worked hard to continue to support the Officers, Soldiers, families and friends of 1 RHA throughout the
many deployments and exercises that have taken place, all whilst dealing with the ongo- ing global pandemic. We have managed to adapt the support that we offer to ensure that we continued to deliver the appropriate level of support depending on the situations pre- sented to us.
We look forwarding to continuing our sup- port in the year ahead.
