1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery
Adjutant General’s Corps 2021 Private Nyaknno Moses, AGC Detachment
The past year has been surprisingly busy for the AGC Detachment at 1 RHA. A year with many highs and lows has had some undoubted highlights for the detachment.
Detachment personnel accompanied E Battery to Edinburgh, for a Gun Salute at the castle. A fascinating insight for attached personnel, junior members of the detachment gained a great insight into the traditions and role of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. The Gun Salute was very well organised and rigorously rehearsed, to ensure perfection on the day. The opportunity for AGC personnel to accompany the gun batteries on this type of task is fantastic for our integration into the Regiment at large, and also helps us to network and understand the workings of the Battery.
The annual AGC Football Tournament was organised this year by 5 Rifles AGC Detachment, and it took place on the 30th of June 21 at Bulford Camp. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun- shine, the 1 RHA AGC Detachment arrived at Bulford to engage in the competition (captained by the author). The team included the Detachment Commander Lt Carter, Sergeant KK, Sergeant Johnson, Corporal Gurung, Corporal Dewan and Lance Corpo- ral Arif. Prior to the commencement of the game, a safety brief was given, and the match outline was set. We were split into 5 teams. It was a fascinating experience and the 1 RHA Detach- ment team won all our matches (with a winning goal from the author of this article!). At the end of the day, the 1 RHA AGC
Detachment took home the trophy. This experience allowed us to develop teamwork and support one another, as communica- tion was crucial between officers, seniors and juniors.
Also during the past year, Sergeant Stickland organised a Detachment away day, everyone in the team enjoyed this day, because it was a day away from the office to get together. The team building was great, and despite it being a fun day, we had the opportunity to learn to work together as a team, showcasing team work, leadership skills, communications skills and organi- sational skills, which is important in our day-to-day activities at the office. We took some of the Gunners with us and they also had a fantastic day – we are hoping to assist in organising a day like this for our supported batteries soon. Team tasks were the order of the day, with personnel being split into two teams - the last activity in particular was a great challenge, building a raft. This tested the planning abilities of the junior soldiers and required significant brainpower.
As a junior soldier with only a few months in the unit, I have already been lucky enough to be involved with some great experiences, activities, networking and opportunities. I have been made to feel very welcome at 1 RHA, and I have been very lucky to have come here for my first posting. I’m looking forward to volunteering and getting involved with more activities whilst with the Regiment.
