                                Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association

Although the Activities of the Association and the Branches have been curtailed by the ‘Lock down’ a considerable amount
has been achieved during the various ‘windows’. We held our Annual General Meeting via Zoom with some success, [some were more successful than others!] Nevertheless, the MVRA remains strong and emerges from the pandemic with renewed vigour.
Branches have begun monthly meetings again and are holding events. These include canoe trips, shotgun shoots, charity walks, ladies’ luncheons and dinner nights. Branch standards were out on parade
on Remembrance Sunday in a number of locations, including Kidderminster, Wolverhampton,
Stockport, Walsall and
   Rugeley.

been a guiding figure and a driving force behind our Association since its early days.
A Presentation was made to Colonel Tony in October after a retirement lunch at the

September. There were
over 100 members,
and their families
present. It was pleasing
to see members and
their standards of the other antecedent Associations join us for this annual event. After a short Service led by Major Ian Strogman TD followed by a parade led by Pte Derby XXXll, everyone enjoyed the sunshine and music provided by the Tenbury Wells Town Band.

We also welcomed our new president,
Major General [Retd] Alan Hawley CBE, RAMC, we are delighted that General Hawley has accepted his new role within the Association and we are proud to have such a senior Officer experienced Officer as our President. He was commissioned into
B Company, the 1st Bn Mercian Volunteers and went on to complete a distinguished career in the RAMC. He served as Director General of the Army Medical Services and saw operational across-the-world service.
