Rugby within the Battalion remains a key element of Bn life. Despite the Battalion being busy, the Battalion Rugby Team is still preparing and training where possible for their upcoming fixtures.
For the Battalion, the rugby team organised an inter-company 7’s touch rugby tournament, providing a new experience
for soldiers who have never played the support and an opportunity to recruit new players to the team. Each Company entered a team, with all company’s entering in the tournament and playing in a round robin which after an afternoon of rugby, DRAGON company came out victorious.
The Battalion Rugby team has shown incredible versatility playing both Rugby League and Rugby Union. In order for the Battalion to prepare for their first tournament in Rugby League, the rugby team had

the opportunity to partake in coaching sessions ran by the former England Rugby League player Shaun Briscoe. This training session was vital for the team’s preparation for the Army Rugby League Naivalurua
9’s competition – an army wide inter-unit competition. The team performed well and have taken a lot from the experience.
The Battalion Rugby Team has then switched codes back to Rugby Union where they are entered into the Rugby Knockout competition. Due to the busy schedule of all regiments the Bn’s first game was cancelled by 7 RLC. This meant the Bn has proceeded through to the next round with a 28-0 win by default where they are due to play the Scots Guards with a date still to be confirmed.
