Poppy light show and exhibition honours the fallen
Lest we forget our fallen heroes. This was the moral of our evening excursion the poppy night event held at Lichfield Cathedral.
The Healthcare Assistant Foundation course 001/021 and course managers are in phase two training at DMS Whittington, and we had the opportunity to enjoy this truly breath-taking display of modern art and wartime history created by Luxmuralis.
Floor to ceiling of cascading poppies surrounded the crowds and throughout the evening the cathedral used lighting displays to create an artistic impression of hope
for our futures. There were also displays that focused on the history of remembrance and particularly the military medical and nursing corps.
On the east side of the Cathedral the lighting display was called ‘Imagine Peace’ and a lighting show dedicated to the medical and nursing. The feature was created to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale as part of International Nurses Day, and in tribute to the National Health Service.
There were opportunities to either light a candle or write a short note of remembrance. Everyone from the HCA course and the course managers
enjoyed the event and were grateful to be able to attend.
On a final note, it was a beautiful evening and a time for us all as new entrants to reflect or past, present and current conflicts but also the global pandemic, as we continue to see how our lives have changed and how we might live differently as a result of all we have experienced.
