Northampton & District Cycling Association and Invicta 1952, cycling medals [25mm diameter]
A medal has also been noted for the Wellingborough Cycling club. According to the Northampton Mercury 18 september 1931 p 7, the ‘Wellingborough Cycling Club decided its annual 25 miles championship for the Burrows Silver Trophy and medals at the weekend’.
the result was: 1st – L s Brabbins, 2nd – A Burrows, and 1st handicap – C K Johnson.
so it assumed this is Mr A Burrows’ silver medal on page 61.
two other late medals were noted
awarded to A Wright. the first was
awarded in 1951 by the (northampton) Invicta Road Club for a 25 miles race and the second by the northampton & District Cycling Association in 1952, for coming 3rd in a 50 miles handicap race. (the club can also be found called the Invicta Cycle Club.)
newspaper articles from the Northampton Mercury e.g., 25 oct 1935, p15 and 12 May 1939, p17 show the Invicta Club was very active much earlier than the dates on the medals.
