FROM THE BRIDGE
Welcome to this second edition of our new format, new look Yachter.
The plans for it were laid nearly a year ago as Lauren and I sat in the newly refurbished Gins with our very helpful new publishers.
You’ll see that this second edition builds
on some of the initiatives of the first, and starts to include more articles from or about some of those people and organisations with whom we work, such as our Honorary Members, the RYA and the RNLI.There’s also the first of what we hope will become a regular new feature about our Reciprocal Clubs.
Our aim is to provide much more than simply an “in house” magazine; it goes without saying that we want this biannual publication to be as helpful and informative as possible to all our Members, and to that end you’ll find articles about our staff, your committees and what’s been going on in your Club in recent months. Plus, our “On the Horizon” section also looks ahead to what’s planned, so, from now on, the centre section of your Yachter will contain a pull- out rolling diary of future events.
As well as informing our current Membership, we also want to reach out to
our many friends and visitors who are not yet members of what we want to be the friendliestYacht Club on the Solent.Copies of the Yachter will be available from Gins for our visitors, but if you wish, take another to keep in your chart table or car, to pass on to friends and acquaintances who might like to learn more about your Club and how they might join.
This edition is due for publication at around Easter time, but as I write this the New Year hasn’t yet begun, and Jan and
I are preparing to join the Gins walk on 27th December. That gives an indication of how much work and preparation goes into each of these magazines. For that we must give a huge vote of thanks to our volunteer Editors, Brian Hinde, who helped compile our last edition, and Natalie Hamilton who is compiling this and, we hope, many more editions to come.
It just remains for me to wish all our Members and friends a very happy and successful 2020. If you participate in any
of our many activities, prepare or sail your boat near or far, or simply enjoy what we hope will be an enjoyable summer, think about taking a few shots with your camera or jotting down some notes and send them
off to Natalie at yachter@rsyc.org.uk for our next edition!
With best wishes for the coming season
