MIDNAG
Bringing history to life
Your local archaeology group, based in Oundle, is MidNAG: short for the Middle Nene Archaeological Group. If archaeology interests you, please come along and join us for our lectures.
History of the group
In October 1970 the Nene Valley Archaeological Research Committee suggested the formation
of a local group led by local archaeologists
John Hadman and Steve Upex to organise excavations, field walking and other events. John and Steve had already supervised some excavations including Elton and Fotheringhay, but the first indoor meeting of the Middle Nene Archaeological Group took place in February 1971. 50 plus years later the group is still flourishing.
Events and lectures
Our events and lectures are open to all members of the public for a small fee, but even better would be to join the group. Subscriptions are due on the 1st September each year, the current rate is £10 for an individual or £15.00 for a family membership.
Our exciting main lecture this year will be on Friday 27th October in the Primary School, Cotterstock Road. We have Mark Knight from Cambridge Archaeological Unit coming to talk to us about ‘Must Farm – Britain’s Pompeii’. This will be a follow up on the exciting discoveries from the excavations which Mark talked about back in March 2018 and the new information provided by the specialist reports in the intervening period. Look out for ticket sales on our website soon.
Please see our website for all events and the upcoming season of lectures. www.midnag.org.uk
