Ross-on-Wye Community Project
We’ve had another fantastic growing season at the Community Garden in Ross-on-Wye. We are now coming to the stage of harvesting final crops for the year and starting to prepare the ground for next year.
Before the first frosts appear it’s important to harvest Squash, Gourds and Pumpkins, as you can always bring them inside and ripen them off.
In the next couple of months we will be preparing ground and planting Onion sets, Garlic, Broad Beans and Spring Cabbage.
As most crops finish we are now in the process of clearing them away and filling up the compost bins. As we now start to think ahead to next year, it’s worth taking a little while to plan your site and rotate crops and when you roughly know where things are going you can
then start to prepare the ground
and add some organic matter
which will be working through the soil throughout the winter.
There are also a number of winter salads that we will continue to sow including Lettuce ‘Arctic King’, Salad Burnet, Lambs Lettuce and Endive ‘CanCan’. These can be grown under a cloche or inside a garden tunnel/greenhouse.
