A Year full of achievement
Earlier this year the Leeds & District Allotment Gardeners Federation achieved successes at Harrogate Spring Flower Show (gold medal) and the Chelsea Flower Show (silver medal) for their demonstration allotment garden ‘The Techno Allotment’.
They then went onto achieve what
could be described as a fitting end to this successful year at the Great Yorkshire Show where they were awarded not only a gold medal for the display but a champions certificate for the best educational stand.
In addition to the many thousands of people who admired the stand, it was also admired by the Countess of Wessex when she stopped by on her tour around the show. She spoke briefly to the Federations Publicity Officer, Phil Gomersall about various aspects of the allotment garden. Then to crown it all, on the last day of
the show they gained a further certificate for achieving second place in the ‘People’s Choice’. This meant a great deal to the volunteers as it showed the allotment garden had been appreciated by the public; a proud day indeed for the volunteers.
Well, a busy, tiring but very exciting and gratifying year with thousands of people seeing what our wonderful recreational activity has to offer.
Wow!

Gold for Yorkshire
It’s been an amazing year for Yorkshire Allotments, what with the many successes by the Leeds & District Allotment Gardeners Federation at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, Chelsea Flower Show and the Great Yorkshire Show.
Now to bring the show season to a close, the Yorkshire Allotment Gardeners Federation has just been awarded a gold medal for their display stand at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, a fitting end to the year.
The Yorkshire Allotment Gardeners Federation has also just set up a new website www.yagf.org.uk as part of a scheme to keep NAS members in Yorkshire more informed and to try get more sites involved as a region. It is part of an attempt to keep members more aware and informed about what is going on in the region and to promote any local allotment related events. It will also keep all members informed about our quarterly meetings, resulting (hopefully) in a larger attendance. We are looking at eventually moving the meetings around this very large region of ours to make it even more accessible.
The Yorkshire Allotment Gardeners Federation AGM will be held in Scarborough on the 8th November 2014. Consult the website for details.
This year could be described as a golden year for Yorkshire.
