Voluntarily opening themselves up to the cough- ing, choking, and burning of the eyes, mouth and nose that CS gas brings, it was unfathomable as to why to anyone outside of the Platoon would go ahead with this, let alone ask for it. But as the sun passes the yardarm on the year, Lucknow Platoon have been busier than ever ‘seizing the opportunity’, their platoon’s motto.
Under the keen eyes of CSgt Brown and SSgt Rai, injured OCdts that form Lucknow Platoon worked tirelessly this summer term to fit in extra activities to broaden their skills and experi- ence, sandwiched in around the Platoons’ daily gym and physio sessions as well as afternoon lessons.
The term kicked off in May with a visit to meet the Chelsea Pensioners headed by OCdt Wak- eford, where OCdts spoke to the British Army veterans recognised for their loyal service to the nation. These men and women (the Royal Hos- pital Chelsea opened their doors to women as of 2009) were full of stories to tell and incred- ible years of experience, which Lucknow Pla- toon were lucky enough to soak up whilst being shown around the grounds.
Week four saw OCdts celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with OCdts Brown and Red- path presenting the history of the Queen and the Royal family, followed by a ‘Best of British’ themed sports day. In typi-
