Wings & Radicles
Rachel Sampara is originally from Liverpool but moved to the area in January 2021 and brought with her, a love of bees...
When did you discover your love of bees?
I stumbled across an advert for a beekeeping course in Liverpool. To this day, I still don’t know what sparked my interest, but as soon as I got into my beekeeper-suit and
And you do workshops too? Yes, I teach beekeeping workshops and at the end of April,
I will be starting wax melt making workshops.
I have two different types of workshops. The first is to experience beekeeping for the day. The second is a longer course aimed at people who would like to become beekeepers.
opened up a hive for the very first time, I instantly fell in love.
How long have you had your own hives? I got a hive of my own in 2019 but prior to that, I was looking after hives in a local school.
Who works with you, or do you go it alone? I work on my own but teaching workshops and being a stall holder at local markets allows me to regularly interact with other people, so it never gets lonely!
What products do you make? I use the beeswax from my hives to create: wax melts, lip balms and reusable food wraps (eco-friendly alternative to clingfilm). I also make seed bombs and of course... honey!
Tell us more... My ultimate aim for Wings & Radicles is to use beekeeping as a tool to help with mental wellbeing. Beekeeping has really helped me, when I open the hive, it’s like the rest of the world melts away. I want to be able to share that with others too.
What is the best thing about your job? My favourite thing about my job is seeing how happy beekeeping can make people.
What makes being in Thrapston Indoor Market such a perfect environment? It’s a lovely community of talented stall holders. The market is a perfect size and each seller is totally unique. We are there on the first Saturday of every month from 9am-1pm.
What’s your best selling product? My beeswax lip balms are definitely my best sellers. www.wingsandradicles.co.uk
